Personal statement

Connor is a Research Associate at the University of Strathclyde and is formerly a member of the Future Power Networks and Smart Grids Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), holding a PhD in electrical power systems. Prior to joining the CDT, he obtained an MSc in electrical power engineering with business and a BEng in mechanical and power plant systems.

Connor’s academic research primarily focuses on the decarbonisation of heat and transport and the impacts on local electricity systems. He employs spatial and temporal high-resolution place-based assessment methodologies and frameworks to understand these impacts, contextualising findings for various stakeholders.

Research Interests

Connor has a broad research interest in energy decarbonisation and the electricity system. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Spatial and temporal modelling of demand for different energy vectors.
  • The role of demand flexibility in distribution network operation and planning.
  • The impacts of socio-economic indicators on demand and network infrastructure to support policymakers in tackling fuel poverty.
  • The use of microgrid technology for enabling resilient local energy communities.
  • The application of digital twins in future power systems.
